Show Boat (1936) – James Whale is legendary for his work on Universal monster movies like Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. But Whale’s own personal favorite was this adaptation of the classic Hammerstein-Kern musical with Paul Robeson’s immortal performance of the song “Ol’ Man River”. Many musical aficionados consider this to be the best of the three film versions of Show Boat. Now you can finally judge for yourself.

Here Comes The Navy (1934) – James Cagney teams up with Pat O’Brien in this military comedy. Cagney plays a construction worker who loses his job after a fight with naval officer O’Brien, so he enlists in order to get some payback. I’m guessing the Navy makes a man out of him in the end.

The Oklahoma Kid (1939) – Cagney and Humphrey Bogart aren’t the first people you’d expect to find costarring in a Western but here they are. Cagney’s the heroic outlaw of the title, seeking vengeance against Bogie as Whip McCord.

Winner Take All (1932) – Cagney’s on more familiar ground in this one as a boxer torn between two women. Marian Nixon is a sweet young widow with an ailing son (Dickie Moore). Virginia Bruce is a slick society dame up to no good. Probably not too hard to figure out where this one is headed.

The FBI: The Complete Seventh Season (1971-72) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation navigates the swingin’ 70s, with cases involving such guest stars as Martin Sheen, Mark Hamill, Dabney Coleman, Lindsay Wagner and Clu Gulager.
