Pick-Ups for the week of June 8, 2015

Welcome back to my Dailies feature, Pick-Ups!

It’s designed to feature older Blu-ray and DVD releases that we haven’t gotten around to reviewing until now (sorry about that!), as well as highlight select international releases and other unique titles on disc.

I try to do this column on a weekly basis, so be sure to check back regularly for more titles that are worthy of your attention. [Read on here...]

All right, first things first today: Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past – The Rogue Cut is now available for Blu-ray pre-order on Amazon.com for release on 7/14. And yes, that IS the official cover artwork there. Click below or on the title link to pre-order (and support The Bits in the process).

Now then... we have a LOT of announcement news today, including a great catalog title announcement update. Let’s get to it...

First, Warner Home Video has announced the release of some new TV titles on Blu-ray and DVD including Person of Interest: Season Four and Vampire Dairies: Season Six on 9/1, and Arrow: Season Three, The Flash: Season One, and Gotham: Season One. (street date TBA). All are available for pre-order now from Amazon – just click on the titles.  [Read on here…]

We’ve just posted an in-depth review of Scream Factory’s new Mad Max: Collector’s Edition, set to be released on Blu-ray on 5/5. Our own Tim Salmons’ has given the new edition a good going over for you all. The A/V quality is marginally different than the previous MGM Blu-ray (not really better or worse overall – just different), but the new extras are pretty terrific. It’s well worth a look, especially if you haven’t purchased the film on Blu-ray before. Those of you with the existing MGM BD release might have a tougher decision to make, but at $14 it’s not like buying the new edition and keeping both is going to break the bank. Anyway, enjoy the review!

Stay tuned...

We’ve just posted an in-depth review of John Carpenter’s Escape from New York, soon to be released on Blu-ray Collector’s Edition from Scream Factory. I wrote the new Blu-ray specific portions, pertaining to the disc’s A/V quality and extras. Adam did a great write-up of the film itself in his 2003 DVD Special Edition review here, so we carried that part over. The new edition streets on April 21st, and it’s well worth your time and money. It improves upon the A/V quality of the previous MGM Blu-ray, preserves the best of the 2003 DVD extras, and adds great new material too. Don’t miss it!

Stay tuned...

Our own Tim Salmons has checked out a pair of recent titles: Kino Lorber’s Sorceress and Twilight Time’s Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison. Both titles (and the reviews) are worth a look.  [Read on here…]

Today’s update is going to be relatively quick, because I’m trying to spend as much time as I can reviewing this week. There are a few new Blu-ray reviews that I really want to get posted over the next few days, but it takes time to go through them all.  [Read on here…]
