Formed in 1994, DreamWorks Animation jumped on board the full-length animation feature bandwagon in 1998 with Antz, which was controversial at the time for its similarity to Pixar’s A Bug’s Life. Despite this initial legal hiccup, the company has gone on to produce many more popular animated films, some of which have spawned franchises of their own. Although more films are definitely on their release docket for the future, DreamWorks Animation (as of this writing) has produced forty-two films with a mix of hand-drawn animation, stop-motion animation, and CGI animation, even working with companies like Aardman Studios.
The variety of films that DreamWorks Animation has produced include the Shrek and Kung Fu Panda series, Chicken Run, Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit (a personal favorite), the Madagascar series, and the How to Train Your Dragon series, among many others. All of their films lean towards family friendly, but one might be surprised by just how well made some of them are. It's also wild how many successful actors and actresses have appeared in one or more of these films. But when it comes to owning them on physical media, there have been a variety of options over the years, which brings us to today's course.
Australia’s Random Space Media has put together a rather impressive collection of these films, simply titled DreamWorks: 42 Movie Collection. Though the title is simplistic, this boxed set is rather large and bulky, housing and numbering all forty-two films in separate, CD-sized DigiPak sleeves. We won’t bore you by thoroughly reviewing each and every individual film. Instead, we’ll provide you with the nuts and bolts of what each disc in this set has to offer when it comes to audio and subtitle options, as well as bonus materials. To be clear, this is a forty-two Blu-ray disc boxed set, meaning that if you already own some of these titles on Blu-ray 3D or 4K Ultra HD, they’re not included here.

All of the discs in this massive release are Region-Free, except for Turbo, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, and How to Train Your Dragon 2, which are all Region A/B locked.
The DreamWorks 42 Movie Collection does what no other release of this set of films has done, which is combine the output of three separate studios (Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, and Paramount Pictures) into one package, which is impressive. All told, this is quite a handsome boxed set with picture quality that's identicial to its US Blu-ray counterparts (in 1080p, that is). The $400 price tag may not be appealing initially, but if you do the math, that works out to be roughly $9.50 per disc. That makes this set a major bargain, giving you the opportunity of purchasing these films in one fell (and affordable) swoop.
