47 Ronin official, plus Warner WWII sets, catalog/indie news & Universal April catalog BD cover art

We’re closing out the week with a trio of new Blu-ray reviews from Tim Salmons, who’s offered up his thoughts on Synapse’s Maniac Cop, and Blue Underground’s Maniac Cop 2: Collector’s Edition and Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence – Collector’s Edition. In announcement news today, Universal has set 47 Ronin for Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 4/1. Extras will include 4 featurettes (Re-forging the Legend, Keanu & Kai, Steel Fury: The Fights of 47 Ronin, and Myths, Magic & Monsters: The FX of 47 Ronin).

Warner Home Video has announced a pair of Blu-ray WWII collections for release on 5/20 (SRP $29.99 each), including the Invasion Europe: 70th Anniversary War Collection (The Big Red One, Where Eagles Dare, The Dirty Dozen, and the D-Day to Berlin documentary) and the True Stories of WWII Collection (Memphis Belle, Battle of the Bulge, and Defiance).

Warner will also release Batman: The Brave and the Bold – The Complete First Season on DVD on 5/20 (SRP $26.99), along with Nikita: The Complete Fourth & Final Season on Blu-ray and DVD. Following on 6/3 will be The New Adventures of Superman: Season 2 & 3 and The Adventures of Batman: The Complete Series on DVD.

Milestone Films will release Come Back, Africa: The Films of Lionel Rogosin, Volume 2 on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/25. Included are Come Back, Africa, An American in Sophiatown: The Making of Come Back, Africa, Black Roots, Have You Seen the Drum Recently? and Bitter Sweet Stories.

Anchor Bay Films has set Snake and Mongoo$e for Blu-ray and DVD release on 4/8.

Uncork’d Entertainment has set the thriller Hazmat for DVD and VOD on 4/1.

SpectiCast in partnership with Omniverse Vision, is releasing the West End theatrical production of Great Expectations on DVD exclusively through Amazon.com starting today. SRP is $19.99.

PBS Distribution has set Reportero for DVD release on 3/4, followed by NOVA: Great Cathedral Mystery on 3/11.

Film Chest Media Group will release Hollow Triumph on DVD only on 3/11.

Vinegar Syndrome has set the 1970s adult titles A Saint, A Woman, A Devil, Peekarama: Sadie/The Seductress, and Peekarama: The Alter of Lust/Angel of Fire for DVD release on 3/11.

Meanwhile, Severin Films has set Ozploitation Trailer Explosion (DVD), Patrick (Blu-ray/DVD Combo), Dead Kids (Blu-ray/DVD Combo) and Thirst (Blu-ray/DVD Combo) for release on 3/11.

And Troma has Dangerous Obsession and Necronos: Tower of Doom coming on DVD on 3/11.
